For here or to go?

I love coffee houses. The excitement of walking through the door, respecting the push/pull sign so you wont create a faux pas, the aroma of roasted coffee beans. Heavenly haven. But sometimes, that excitement will turn down by 'some' intimidating baristas. And the excitement was gone.

In the Philippines where I live in, people have a mentality that getting a cup of Starbucks in hand means you're 'sosyal' or what they mean is 'classy'. I got that mentality growing up so I thought of Starbucks as a mecca for classy people or businessman- which I find it intimidating when you're 12 years old wearing a High School Musical shirt.

But that mentality was busted for a long-long time ago. Anyway, I once had an unpleasant experience with a barista. She had this "Passive Agressive" bravado kinda thing which I found intimidating. She was smiling though but you know when a person is being sarcastic, but I smiled back. I stated my order which is a single Grande Caramel Macchiato, asked my name, and then she asked me a thought provoking question. "For here or To go?" like what???????????????

I was standing there, dead air. Then she said "Iinumin mo ba dito or i-te take out mo sya?" were you gonna drink it here or like to have it in a to go cup? I choose to take it out.

But wait, I find her wrong. She said "For here or To go?". That's wrong!!! that must be "Would you like it to be in a mug or for a to go cup?" right? do I make sense? Haha!

Anyway, that's just some kind of funny unpleasant experience. The next time a barista will do that to me with their "Starbucks English" accent (Philippines has that, may not apply to US or England) I'll ask them if they speak Valyrian or Dothrakis and without a word. I'll just say Dracarys. Hahaha!
