Otit playlist (Playlist of the Uncles)

Hello Psychos,

Your mom is back at writing. Sorry if I haven't wrote for a long time 'cause the corporate world ate me. Also, Netflix and other stuff.

Anyhow, while smoking my Marlboro Blue. I realized that I like listening to old synthpop songs while hitting the nicotine.

So I created a playlist for my old soul readers. By the way, this isn't my uncles playlist. I just putted 'uncle' to show that these songs are almost two decade old. These are also the songs that our uncles (middle aged men) dances whenever they are drunk.

First on the list is P.S.Y's Angelina. This song was popular in the Philippines back in the 90's (as told by the boomers). I like the message of the song because it's all about reaching your dream while being young.

Sadly, the main vocalist-Yassine Dahbi has already passed away.

This italian song was also popular back in the 90's here in the Philippines. I like this more than the remix version (which was more popular than the original version). This is Due by Raf.

Would you believe that this duo was once part of the more popular new wave band New Order? Yes, they are. The Other Two's Selfish became more popular when the House Music genre entered the scene. Click this link to listen.

and the last one is The Knack's classic My Sharona. The film Reality Bites (1994) changed the way on how I listen to this music.

Happy listening :)

Favorite Music Videos

Hi Psychos,

Howr y'all doin aye. Hehe!

Back in college we have this class called Visual Communication. It's all about appreciating different kinds of art from 2D Cartoons, paintings, 3D sculptures. It's also a pre-requisite subject for our cinema classes. There, we watched A LOT of music videos and short films and all we do is to critique and appreciate the content from our own bringing. Since then, I appreciated music videos. It's like mounting a film.

Here are the list of my favorite music videos, as per this date.

1. The Killers- Shot at the Night

I liked this MV because it's like a modern tale of "boy meets girl" in the real world.

2. Coldplay- Up & Up

Other than the aesthetics of the MV, the lyrics of the song itself is beautiful. It is best played when you're sad, feel like giving up, or just happy.

3. HAIM- Want you back

I liked the idea that they've managed to shut down the whole Ventura Blvd. in L.A just to shot this at 7 AM. The choreography and symphony of the sisters really got me dancing.

Things to do when you feel Morbid

There were times when sadness came unexpectedly. Some, after you felt so happy. Oftentimes, when you’re just bored on a lazy afternoon. Whether you feel good (for some people) or bad about it. These cult classics will make you feel you’re not alone on your black parade.

Watch

Garden State (2004)
Directed by the lead actor itself, Zach Braff plays a role of a dysfunctional guy who's coming back to his hometown in New Jersey for his mother’s funeral.

Elizabethtown (2005)
An underrated film about loss, reject, and joy of contentment.

Listen

 The Shins- New Slang
OST of Motion Picture ‘Garden State’, this song is very deep for its usage of figures of speech.

      Augustana- Boston
A lullaby-like song when you just want to get away from the everything

Gregory Alan Isokov- If I go, I’m going
Perfect for night quiet driving

Read

‘This Book will Save your Life’ by AM Homes
A dark humor novel about a middle age man whose life has changed when a big sinkhole shows up in his front yard. I really recommend this one.

MUSIC: HONNE- Good Together

Thanks to my classmate (I think he's Juancho) at my Visual Communication class for playing this in the room while we're at class break. I've been listening to this un-mainstreamed British electro pop duo from time to time whenever I feel good.

Come listen to them, young folks. I won’t fail you.

1994

I felt a bit jealous that some of the great things happened 3 years before I was born. Oh, 1994, just a rundown of things I'd sure admire then while I'm in my Guess rompers.

The only time I admired the ever obnoxious Jim Carey (The Mask)

Bad Gurl (Leon: The Professional)

1994 really reminds me of Reality Bites, tbh. #semiotic

'til then, they revolutionized the coffee shop scene (F.R.I.E.N.D.S)

The birth of awesome gaming experience (Playstation opening)

Film: Fast Food Nation (2006)

First of all, Donald Trump won the US 2016 Elections.

Hahaha!

Going back, I've been fascinated with immigration films since I watched Jim Sheridan's In America (2003) it's a about an Irish immigrant family trying to survive the ghetto living in New York same as this film who got an Academy Award for Best Picture; Brooklyn starring the ever darling Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones)

Since then, I craved for immigration-themed films and yesterday I found this quite unpopular film Fast Food Nation (2006) directed by Richard Linklater, director of Boyhood and Before Sunrise sequels.

The film is about the dark side of America's dark side on its growing fast food industry. It showcases different perspectives of characters who works in the same company coming from the corporate person (played by Greg Kinear, Little Miss Sunshine), to the fast food servers, down to the factory workers. It also revolves around the misfortunate lives of Mexican 'borders' in Estados Unidos.

It reminded me of this 2004 Morgan Spurlock's documentary film Supersize Me, in which weeks after its release Mcdonald's corporation turned down their 'Supersize' meal to the public.

Films like these really awakens many people in the reality that's been polished for many years. It's such a courage act to published a film just like that, sadly it isn't popular just like nowadays entertainment movies.

What's with the White Chucks?

What's with the White Chucks? ( Converse Chuck Taylor) I've seen several people wearing it. Is it the new in thing? or it's just a coincidence.

I spent my Christmas in a transient home in Baguio. over the course of three days, I've seen lot's of people wearing it. So I did a very little research on Instagram, I typed #WhiteChucks
such a hot guy, too bad i didn't know him :(
the results were kinda not-that-convincing to say that the White Chuck Taylors were the new in thangg.

Anyway, here's me, rocking my cold christmas night in Baguio wearing a New York Knicks vintage sweater (Yes, real vintage) with American Eagle shorts, leg warmers, and my trusty sun-washed Vans.

Listen: Grunge music

Bands like The Smiths, The Shins, The Psychedelic Fur, Lifehouse.

Watch: Indie flicks

Instead of watching Animes and Vampire Diaries, why don't you take a brake from the TV series and give these films a shot. They can be boring and sleepy because of it's cinematography (Hello, kaya nga indie film eh) but I promise you will definitely love this movie genre after you watch these films.

Clean: Your thing + things

I've been cleaning my room since the day the rain hasn't stop pouring. I really like to clean my stuffs during cold weather (even at midnight) cause it's less distracting and it's less sticky if ever you perform acrobatic stunts just to get rid of that dust under your bed.

Toy Gun, Camera, Boots, and Barbies.

ALL THE RAGE: Pumped-up kicks to flaunt this 2015

Touchstone Pictures. Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)
Marilyn Monroe once said "Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world". I bet Marilyn was talking about designer shoes like Valentino, Manolo, or Jimmy Choos. But this post wasn't about High-ends, After all, the world is not New York (to flaunt those shoes). Entering street fashion, having a subcultural sense of style is a must. Well, If I were given to rephrase that qoutation, I must say "Give a young man the right kicks and he'll got a lot of swag." So to revamp your closet details this 2015, these kicks will surely get a tons of likes on Instagram.

1. Adidas Superstar/Supercolor
Forget about Nike Roshe Run because these colorful kicks are so on fleek! I've seen lots of celebrities rocking these shoes including my favorite blogger & raker Saab Magalona-Bacaro.

Saab wearing basic Adidas Superstar

Anne Curtis wearing Adidas Supercolor
2. Saucony
I've never heard of this shoe brand before but I'm seeing famous people endorsing this brand like Joyce Pring of Magic 89.9 and a lot of sports enthusiasts here in the Metro.

Saucony Jazz in Camouflage is kinda cool though

3. Superga
What is so super about Superga? Honestly, I don't know. Hahaha! (Grabe non-sense) this just bombarded the Philippines last month. Just like Saucony, a lot of Celebrities and bloggers rin were endorsing this brand from Italy. Why don't we just give Superga a shot? Check out Superga store in Bluebay Walk, Greenbelt 5, and Rustan's store.

Maybe what's super in Superga is that Alexa Chung endorses it.

4. Onitsuka Tiger
This Japanese shoe brand is to-die-for. If you're living here in Metro Manila and you see a person wearing these bad boy, I'm definitely sure he/she is a kicks connoisseur.

5. New Balance (574)
New Balance is back! Their 574 collections were really on fleek, these are perfect if you're pulling a Normcore fashion. Here's some of the 574's that I like.
